Traveling Keepsakes

It's been awhile since I wrote in this blog and it's mainly cause I was so busy with testing and the end of the year school stuff! Then summer happened, and I kind of got caught up in the whirlwind of the endless possibilities that it allows. I spent about three weeks away from home and spent some time with family and friends in Texas. Loved spending time and making new memories but I also got a lot of cool new ideas! I'm starting to really fall into step with what my style is as a decorator and that was really exciting to find out. What made it more fun was trying to tie it together in antique stores. It was more of a challenge, to bargain shop and determine if it's worth the price if it's older or simply harder to find. I can't wait to show more in the future what ideas I have in store but that will have to wait for now. I got to hone in my style more and also find a place of my own to put all these things together!

I did get to travel not only to Texas which I'm very much familiar with, but I also got to travel to the UAE and Qatar! I went to visit my mentor teacher from my first year of teaching and I really enjoyed my time there. Check out my other blog post on the three things I learned from my travels. But what I wanted the focus of this post was to show you a cool, neat way to keep souvenirs that you collect when traveling. I can't take credit for this idea however (got it off of pinterest), but I did make it my own and I hope you guys like it!

So I basically keep a lot of the tokens and "free" souveniors from traveling which I'm sure most people do. You know, like your plane ticket there or the expensive touristy thing you did. Other than the occasional scarf or deck of playing cards, these are my go-to souveniors. The best thing about them is that it's proof that you did all those things and you can go through them and remember all the cool stuff you did!

Well I had them save up in random places in my room and when I saw this pinterest post, I thought what a cool way to store and showcase your memories! Now I have them prominently on my bookshelf and each of them contain the memories that I made in those subsequent countries. It was pretty simply to make, I simply bought $6 wooden boxes that look like books from the store and then painted it the way I wanted. I decided to write in the native languages (the best I could) on the front covers which I thought added a personal touch. I also chose the colors that reminded me most of the each country.

Now I have cool keepsake memory boxes that I will cherish for years to come. I cannot wait to travel more in the future to add more to my collection! I will be making a box just for my US adventures but it might be series since traveling in the US is usually my go-to travel destination. Try this out on your traveling memorabilia or try out the other methods that I found on the Buzzfeed article on Pinterest! Creativity is there to be explored! I just thought of another idea on how cute these would be in the shape of a small suitcase! That would take more effort but whatever you decide, make it your own and have FUN!
